Brad Harr & Associates is celebrating 10 years in the profession of helping injured people navigate the maze of insurance claims! We are celebrating and growing into the future. We look forward to what the next 10 years brings.
We are happy to announce our name is changing. We have the same fabulous people working to provide excellent service to you. We are transitioning our name to InjurySmartLaw.com. The name change will allow more people to easily recognize not only our firm but importantly what we do as a law office. Why the change? Our experience has demonstrated that people recognize the name but not what kind of law we handle. For example:
1) We sponsored an event that included a dinner, program, and entertainment with announced by an Emcee. The Emcee was doing a good job at keeping the evening light and fun. Near the end he handed out awards and gave some shout outs. He then said something like: ‘And now for the man who can help you buy or sell your home. This award goes to your local real-estate agent: Brad Harr & Associates….’ Wait, . . .What!?
2) In another episode an employee’s spouse was speaking with a friend. Our firm name came up the friend commented, ‘I know them, they sale insurance right?’
3) Employees have had numerous talks with people in their neighborhood or at social gatherings where our name was recognized, but not what we do. Some of Brad’s neighbors have even called TV attorney’s not realizing we are and injury law firm.
We put our thinking cap on and came up with a name that identifies us and tells our message all in three words. We are grateful for your support and are constantly striving to serve you better.
Thank you for supporting us over the past 10 years. If you know someone who was injured in an accident, let them know that the great people at Injury Smart Law.com are easy to work with and work hard for you.

This year we have sponsored a ton of events. Here is a short video of some of the recent the events that we have sponsored.

Brad Harr & Associates has been built in a way that it does not participate in most mass media. Brad Harr & Associates chooses to put its marketing dollars towards things that make a difference in the community. Through means like donating water to athletic programs and providing sound systems stages and other equipment for events in the community. Brad Harr makes small differences every week.

As summer draws to a close, back-to-school season is in full effect. It is time for us to gear up and implement the safety and extra caution needed to protect our students. I believe the tips below are good refreshers for us and our school age children.

According to a report by the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration, autumn is the most dangerous time of year for pedestrians, with 29 percent of pedestrian-related fatalities occurring. In their article they included tips to help keep you, and your kids, safer as they head back to school. Whether you are a new or long-term driver, use these tips to set the example for others on the road.

  1. Respect the big yellow bus. Imagine being in a large car with 4- noisy students. Could be pretty stressful. Do your part and make the bus drivers’ lives easier. Yield when they are attempting to merge, and maintain a significant distance behind them, as they often make unexpected stops. Make sure children know to walk in front of – never in back of- buses. Review the safety guidelines with your children if they ride a bus to and from school. Remember in all 50 states that is a law making it illegal to pass a school bus that is stopped to load or unload children.
  2. Get in the zone. Abide by the speed limits and be more cautious when driving in school zones. When dropping kids off, remember that curbs are reserved for buses and emergency vehicles so you should not loiter. If you need a few extra minutes during the drop-off, turn on your hazard lights. In a school zone when a warning flasher or flashers are blinking, you must stop to yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within a marked crosswalk or intersection with no marked crosswalks.
  3. Walk better. Drivers aren’t the only ones who need to obey the rules of the road. A major driving pet peeve is pedestrians who jaywalk, cross at a red light, or text while walking.

Let us remember as drivers while driving in neighborhoods, or school zones, watch for young people who may be in a hurry to get to school and may not be thinking about getting there safely.

A couple of months ago, a buddy and I took his inexpensive self-bailing kayaks to Lee’s Ferry for a short trip on the Colorado River. We floated and paddled about 16 river miles in the lower Glen Canyon Recreation area between Glen Canyon Dam (Lake Powell) and Lee’s Ferry at Marble Canyon, Arizona. jeff pic7

We spent 6 or 7 hours on the water in one of the most beautiful canyons of the Colorado River. The water as it exits the dam is crystal clear, deep, and has an abundance of large trout. There are a number of small beaches with campgrounds as well as petroglyphs, wildlife, (including big horn desert sheep, blue hereon, condors and bald eagles eagles) and some of the most amazing red rock scenery you will ever see.

jeff pic5

jeff pic6It is about a 2½ hour drive from St. George. Turn onto Highway 59 in Hurricane towards Fredonia, Arizona. At Fredonia, turn right onto 89A south towards Jacob Lake and the Grand Canyon. At Jacob Lake, stay left on 89A across the top of the Kaibab Plateau and you will drop down across the desert and to Marble Canyon, Arizona. Just before the Navajo bridge (don’t miss it), turn left into the Glen Canyon Recreation area and Lee’s Ferry.

There is a rafting company called Colorado River Discovery located in Page, Arizona. They take half day motorized raft tours from Glen Canyon Dam down to Lee’s Ferry once or twice a day March 1 through November 1, http://raftthecanyon.com/raft-the-river/half-day-raft-trips/ .jeff pic3

If you call ahead, you can arrange for them to back-haul your party and your kayaks from Lee’s Ferry upriver to within a few hundred yards of Glen Canyon Dam for about $50.00 per person. The trip alone is worth seeing Glen Canyon Dam from the river.
jeff pic4

Paddling downstream is easy and smooth. There are only a few light ripples on the water. There are a number of small beaches and campgrounds available on a first come first serve basis. We did the trip in about 7 hours and camped at the large campground at Lee’s Ferry.

The scenery is spectacular. Both sides of the river have towering red sandstone cliffs hundreds of feet high. We saw numerous fish and blue heron. There are at least two places you can stop and photograph petroglyphs. There are primitive restrooms at a number of stops. You likely will see a number of other boats on the river. Principally, small powered boats which were launched from Lee’s Ferry containing fishermen taking advantage of what is reported to be world class trout fishery. You also may see other groups in larger rafts guided by the Colorado River Discovery Rafting Company. jeff pic1

The trip is approximately 16 river miles, so in spite of other boats and groups boats, there is plenty of time for solitary contemplation. Temperatures in the summer months are very hot, and because the water comes from the bottom of Lake Powell, the water is incredibly clear and very cold.

The lower half of the trip the river is quite placid. It took a considerable amount of paddling to finish before dark. I would recommend an early start and steady progress for a day trip, or ideally an overnight trip with lightweight camp gear in a water proof bag. If you go, take plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen, and bug spray. There were few biting insects, but from time to time, without repellant flying midges were somewhat distracting on our trip.

As you get closer to Lee’s Ferry, the topography changes substantially. The river leaves what is the lower end of Glen Canyon and transitions to a completely different geological structure at the beginning of Marble Canyon. Marble Canyon at Lee’s Ferry is the typical starting point for Grand Canyon River trips. Undoubtedly, you will see large rafts and parties launching for their Grand Canyon adventure.

jeff pic7At Marble Canyon, at the very small hamlet of Marble Canyon at the turn off to Lee’s Ferry, a few miles from where you exit the river, there are a couple of small quaint motels as well as a restaurant or two. A few miles up the road is a convenience store and small gas station. On other occasions, I have stayed in the Cliff Dweller/Marble Canyon, Arizona area and hiking slot canyons. Not to be missed is a walking trip across the Colorado on the original Navajo Bridge which has recently been replaced by a wider span just past the Lees Ferry turn off on Highway 89A.

Happy Paddling!

Fireworks, for most people, are as American as apple pie! We use them in celebration for beginning a New Year, celebrating Independence Day, celebrating State Holidays, the end of a production at Tuacahn Amphitheatre, to close a night at the County Fair, etc. When I was a little girl, the noise was so loud that I was afraid and would hide in the bedroom closet. As I grew older, I became awestruck with the beauty and magnitude. Every year we’d all gather around to watch the big city displays counting how many blasts were in each roman candle and ooh and ahh over the glorious colors. We’d also have smaller displays with neighbors at home.

As we see the firework stands pop up all over town, please keep in mind the safety concerns.
1) Many animals are terrified of fireworks as they don’t know what they are. I’ve seen dogs run into the street trying to catch them as well as having heard of dogs breaking through large windows trying to get at them. Please be pet friendly with your displays.
2) Shoot them off in an open area away from children, animals, homes, buildings, vehicles, and flammable objects. Be safe.
3) Not all fireworks are legal in every state. Contrary to what some may think, this is not a punishment or government oppression. It is a safety concern. Only shoot off fireworks purchased in your location and not brought in from another state.
4) Adult supervision and age appropriate!!
5) Check to see if your city has any restrictions.
6) Fire concerns.
– It is illegal to light fireworks on State and Federal land in Utah, including national parks, state parks, Bureau of Land Management land, National Forest Service land, and Bureau of Indian Affairs land.
– Dates / times they can be set off.
– Locations where they can or cannot be set off at.
– Always have buckets of water or water hoses available for any sparks that may happen.
– Spent fireworks should be soaked in a bucket prior to disposal.
7) Old fireworks from years past may not be safe. If it looks damaged or has a short fuse, dispose of it rather than take a chance on getting hurt. Also, please be courteous and clean up after yourselves. Don’t leave the garbage for someone else to clean up or to blow around littering our beautiful homes.

Remember, nobody wants to spend a holiday in the emergency room or at an urgent care facility. Please be smart and have a safe/fun Summer!!

The 2015 Road Rage Duathlon was a great success! Even through the rain and the hail and the wind, there was still a great turn out and those involved had fun. We Were lucky to be involved as a sponsor, we provided water at the finish line and helped to support the aid station halfway through the race. Part of our sponsorship included photos of all the participants as they passed certain points on the course. That photo gallery is posted up on this link to our fACEBOOK PAGE. We are glad that to our knowledge there was no major problems and that everyone left safely.

Last Weekend We hope that you were able to tell your spouse, family and friends that you love them. With Valentines day, the parade of homes and so many other fun activities going on in town we hope that you had time to slow down and let those around you that you care about them.

One of the Several festivities was the Red Rock BBQ festival that happened at the town square friday and Saturday. Teams from around southern Utah gathered and started to cook around 4:00 pm on friday, then the competition and voting started saturday at 2:30. The competition was friendly but it was also fun as the competitors competed to see who by popular vote who could cook the Best BBQ in Southern Utah. Up until this year there has not been an event like this in Southern Utah, and we are grateful that we got to be a part. The Event included everything from Food to live entertainment, and a chance to support the local Switchpoint efforts.

Switchpoint for those unaware is a center for those going through a dramatic change in their lives. It Provides everything from a place to stay to help writing a good resume. Located in Santa clara(just off Sunset blvd) this center helps everyone who needs a lift up. The Watercraz Marketing group recently started a event series that is giving away a new side-by-side that will be given away to someone in the community that has bought a ticket. All the proceeds of this ticket goes to Switchpoint for their use. Check out their facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/watercraz

to check out more details on the Red Rock BBQ Festival please visit http://www.redrockbbqfestival.com/

So with all the events going on hope you all found a fun place to be. For more information on local events Check out StGeorgeHappenings.com it has a full list of family friendly events in the Southern Utah area.
